Good morning, friends.
I am sorry this is a day later than I usually send it out. What can I say? It was a crazy, busy weekend that spilled over into Monday. We celebrated our granddaughter, Reagan’s, 10th birthday, with lots of family in, lots of grandchildren here and my puppy, Joy, home at last!
Needless to say, there was a lot going on at the Hill house! But as I sit to write this morning, and the house is quiet again, my thoughts are back on the topic we have been talking about in recent weeks. The need for some R&R is once again great.
We have had yet another unexpected loss in our family. Our nephew’s wife died tragically and unexpectedly last Wednesday morning, leaving my nephew and their two children, ages 10 and 6, in the throes of grief. It has been a difficult week as we process this loss and all that it involves.
I must confess, this has been a hard one. It has brought up memories of our losing Jeremy and has made me realize how deep the grief still is. Thinking about a motherless home for my sister’s grandchildren and a fatherless home for our grandchildren has just made me so sad yet again. But it has also reminded me of how deeply I need to keep reciting God’s promises and rehearsing His faithfulness (R&R). It is because of God’s faithfulness and His promise to be a Father to the fatherless (and even a Mother to the motherless) that I can find hope in the midst of the sadness.
We have spent two weeks looking at numerous promises from God’s Word that provide comfort and rest for our souls. This week I feel the need to camp out on the promise of God’s faithfulness! When we are weary of life, when we feel we can’t go on, He is faithful! We can find rest in His faithfulness when our souls are tossed in the waves of tragedy and despair. He can be trusted. He is indeed faithful and true.
This song by my “buddy” Steven Curtis Chapman says it better than I ever could, so I am leaving you with the lyrics to his beautiful song, My Redeemer Is Faithful and True. Spend some time reading through these powerful words and be comforted, as I am. We, once again, covet your prayers.
“My Redeemer Is Faithful And True”
As I look back on the road I’ve traveled,
I see so many times He carried me through;
And if there’s one thing that I’ve learned in my life,
My Redeemer is faithful and true.
My Redeemer is faithful and true.
My Redeemer is faithful and true.
Everything He has said He will do,
And every morning His mercies are new.
My Redeemer is faithful and true.
My heart rejoices when I read the promise
‘There is a place I am preparing for you.’
I know someday I’ll see my Lord face to face,
‘Cause my Redeemer is faithful and true.
My Redeemer is faithful and true.
My Redeemer is faithful and true.
Everything He has said He will do,
And every morning His mercies are new.
My Redeemer is faithful and true.
And in every situation He has proved His love to me;
When I lack the understanding, He gives more grace to me.
My Redeemer is faithful and true.
Everything He has said He will do,
And every morning His mercies are new.
My Redeemer is faithful and true.
My Redeemer is faithful and true.
