Above All Else Guard Your Heart
Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” We spent our time together Sunday evening talking about heart issues. In fact, it will be a recurring theme in the coming weeks. Scripture tells us that the heart is desperately wicked and asks the question in Jeremiah 17:9, “who can know it?” Our heart is involved in every conversation we have, every relationship we have, in everything we do and say and think. Sometimes we develop heart trouble, as experiences get stuck in our spiritual hearts, much like plaque gets stuck in our physical hearts. We need a heart monitor to help us guard our hearts from the damage that can come from allowing bitterness and anger to build up in our hearts. The good news is that Jesus is the Great Physician and he specializes in heart issues. When we come to know Him as our Savior, He gives us a new life, a new record, and a new heart. He gives us the grace we need to guard our hearts and to make sure our hearts stay pure and clean before Him. He also gives us the Holy Spirit, who is the best heart monitor there is. So, this week as you face the challenges of living in a world hostile to the truths of the Gospel, ask the Holy Spirit to help you guard your heart and then, rest assured that He will do it.
Thank you.
In His Service,
Steve
